About Us

Co-host Elizabeth (Lisa) Heineman slogged through the usual underpaid women’s jobs – cocktail waitress, secretary, cook – before becoming a historian. She now teaches courses in German and European history, gender and sexuality, and human rights at the University of Iowa. She’s the author of Before Porn was Legal: The Erotica Empire of Beate Uhse (University of Chicago Press, 2011) and What Difference Does a Husband Make? Women and Marital Status in Nazi and Postwar Germany (University of California Press, 1999) and editor of Sexual Violence in Conflict Zones: From the Ancient World to the Era of Human Rights (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2011).
